生と死を分かつ一線。であるとともに、ある種の白い粉により机に引かれた線。

"Gaucho"の制作期間中、ベッカーは恋人をドラッグのオーバードーズで亡くす。
さらに恋人の家族からは彼女をドラッグの道に引きずり込んだと誤解され、告訴されてしまう。
それでいろいろあって復活したのが"11 Tracks of Whack"。
タイトルに反して12曲入り（日本盤は13曲入りで、ボートラ"Medical Science"がかっこいい）。
この歌詞はかつての恋人への想いと無関係とは思えないが、
それをピカレスク・ストーリー仕立てにして、最後には「グッド・ラック俺のジャンキーガール」とか言い放ってしまう。
とてもヒドいのだが、そういう心なさを演じなければ、とても歌にできなかった、ということもあるわけで…
アルバムの最後に息子に捧げた『リトル・カワイ』なんて曲を収録する男が冷血漢である訳もなく。
基本的にこの曲は親しみやすいカントリーロック風なのだが、
中間部でとつぜん"Aja"みたいな不思議な時空間に行ってしまう。
そこに歌のパート以上に、ベッカーのセンチメントの核心が聞こえるような。
Steely Danにおけるベッカーの役割が伺えるような曲。
そんでこの曲の恋人たちの転生した姿が、ベッカーの2nd／最終作"Circus Money"の"Downtown Canon"の主人公たちである気がする。
